Sindur Khela is a vibrant Bengali Hindu tradition celebrated on Vijayadashami, the last day of Durga Puja (usually October), where married women smear vermilion (sindoor) on Goddess Durga’s idol and then on each other. It symbolizes a farewell to the Goddess, wishing for marital bliss, long life for husbands, and, in recent years, inclusivity for all women. “Durga Maa Asche” is a Bengali phrase meaning “Mother Durga is coming”. It signifies the arrival of the Hindu Goddess Durga for the annual Durga Puja festival, symbolizing the homecoming of the goddess, the triumph of good over evil, and the start of festive celebrations in autumn.
