“Bhor Holo” (ভোর হলো) is a very popular Bengali phrase that translates to “It is dawn” or “Morning has arrived”. It represents the beginning of a new day, waking up, and opening doors (Dor Kholo) to new opportunities. It is commonly known from the famous Bengali nursery rhyme “Bhor Holo, Dor Kholo” (Morning has arrived, open the door), written by Kamalakanta Bhattacharya, which is used to wake up children. When used in the context of Kolkata, it simply refers to the sunrise or the very early morning hours in the city, often associated with the start of daily activities.
