Jantar Mantar Notebook (Small)

There isn’t a historical “Jantar Mantar” observatory in Kolkata like the famous ones in Delhi or Jaipur; the term is used metaphorically in Kolkata for chaotic protest sites, like the recent Supreme Court comparison of disruptions at the Calcutta High Court to Jantar Mantar in Delhi. While some restaurants in Kolkata use the name (e.g., Jantar Mantar Khanewala), the original concept refers to 18th-century astronomical observatories built by Maharaja Jai Singh II in other Indian cities, notably Delhi, Jaipur, Ujjain, Mathura, and Varanasi.
