Lep Kombol Photo Frame (Medium)

The Lep (লেপ) and Kombol (কম্বল) represent a deep-rooted, nostalgic, and essential part of Bengali winter culture, combining traditional craftsmanship with the necessity of warmth.
Lep (The Quilt): Traditionally a thick quilt, the Lep is a handmade, heavy, and extremely warm bedding item filled with simul tulo (red silk cotton). Historically, these were made by specialized artisans known as lep-thopas. The simul tulo makes them light yet highly effective at trapping body heat, a traditional method of surviving the Bengal winter. While Lep refers to the traditional cotton-stuffed quilt, Kombol refers to a woollen blanket or rug, often seen as a durable, all-purpose, and more accessible, often cheaper, alternative or complement to the Lep. Both items are deeply ingrained in Bengali nostalgia, associated with cold winter mornings, rooftop sun-bathing of bedding to remove moisture, and the comfort of, as Bengalis say, “Lep mudi” (wrapping oneself in a quilt).
