Kolkata’s minibus service, a iconic, privately operated transit system, emerged to provide faster, seated-only transport, complementing the crowded public bus network. Introduced later than standard buses (which began in 1918), these smaller, often blue-and-yellow vehicles became popular for suburban connectivity, though they have dwindled to one-third their original numbers today.
