Hand-pulled rickshaws, known locally in Kolkata as tana rickshaws, are a traditional mode of transport where a runner pulls a two-wheeled cart. Because pulling this rickshaw is a physically demanding job, it is common to see the “rickshaw wala” taking a break, often resting on the seat of their own vehicle, or on the sidewalk while waiting for passengers.
