Shiv Songshar Notebook (Medium)

“Shiv Shongshar” (শিব সংসার) refers to the divine family and home of Lord Shiva in Hindu tradition. It literally means “Shiva’s Household” or “Shiva’s World.” It encompasses the domestic life of Lord Shiva, his consort Goddess Parvati (Shakti), and their children, Lord Ganesha and Lord Kartikeya. The household represents a balance of opposites—Shiva as the calm ascetic yogi and Parvati as the embodiment of energy and domesticity, providing a model of harmony, mutual respect, and love. In Bengali culture, particularly during festivals like Durga Puja, the concept of “Shongshar” (household) is deeply meaningful. Shiv Shongshar depicts a homely, approachable side of the divine, often portrayed with Parvati managing the household while Shiva is in deep meditation or acting as a protective, loving, and sometimes carefree husband and father.
